Are Double Vision And Pain In Forehead Symptoms Of Multiple Sclerosis?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Apr 2015
Question: Hello! Thank you for your quick response. I want to know if I should be concerned about something that has had a duration of 3-4 days? Basically I have a probable diagnosis of MS. I am waiting for an appointment with the MS specialist in my area. For a few weeks I have had a new symptom of blurry/ double vision. The last occurrence was on Monday of this week. I went to the ER who said it was just nerves and gave me an RX for klonopin. On Tuesday my forehead became VERY tender to the touch. I did not injure it as far as I know and there was no bruising ( which is odd because I bruise VERY Easily!!!). It certainly felt bruised with even the slightest touch. Yesterday afternoon however the whole right side of my head became numb. To demonstrate to my finance I wasn't kidding I stabbed a safety pin in my forehead and then to above my ear, drawing blood. I only felt pressure if that. Can you help me determine what is going on and if an ER trip is necessary. I've already been twice this week.

Brief Answer:
MS (Multiple sclerosis)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
You are probably having MS (Multiple sclerosis) because of diplopia ( double vision )- a common ocular involvement in MS.
Visual blurring in MS may result from ON ( Optic neuritis ) or diplopia (double vision).
Sensory symptoms are varied and include both paresthesias (e.g., painful burning-as your forehead was very tender to touch) and hypesthesia (e.g., reduced sensation, numbness, or a "dead" feeling-whole right side of your head became numb).
There is no need to visit ER. Let the diagnosis be confirmed by MRI & Evoked potential (Visual,Brainstem /somato-sensory ).

MRI brain -     Very sensitive for detecting lesions produced by Multiple sclerosis;characteristic abnormalities are found in >95% of patients .     Demyelination plaques (presence of peri-ventricular plaque) can be easily picked up by MRI.
