Are There Any Adverse Effects Of Small Piece Of Condom Stuck Inside Vagina?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Dec 2014
Question: Is it potentially dangerous to her if my condom splits during sex and maybe a small part of latex condom material doesnt come out of the vagina?
Yesterday, the first day after her period ended and exactly 7 days after it started, i had sex with my girlfriend. I was wearing a Durex-made condom well within its use-by date, but at some stage during intercourse the condom split open. I ejaculated inside her. After sex part of the latex condom came out of her vagina. Now she is worried about getting pregnant, also about whether there could still be any latex material inside her (could this be harmful?) and whether she could catch and STD from me; I don't have and STD and had a full blood test recently. She is and has been my only sexual partner since having the blood test. What advice would you give her/us please?

Brief Answer:
Here are my suggestions sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. First of all, I greatly appreciate and respect your concern for your girlfriend.

Coming to your query, there should not have been any parts of the condom left inside your girlfriend for long as the uterus would naturally expel it. If at all any part of the condom were to be left behind it could result in an infection (although a simple one).

I would recommend conducting a home pregnancy test using an early morning urine sample at least two weeks from the suspected date of conception (the day you had unprotected sexual contact and the condom tore) or on or after the second day of a missed period.

I would also like to add that if at all the two of you are not ready to become parents, then please do consider taking an emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) at the earliest. An ECP helps in preventing conception if taken within the first 72 hours since the unprotected sexual contact.

If at all you were tested as mentioned above, then she will not and should not be able to contract any sexually transmitted infections from you sir. I hope all this information helps to clear your queries. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you sir.

Best wishes.

Thank you Doctor. My girlfriend is on other medication and is therefore reluctant to take any other pill during her course of treatment. Her first day of the last period was on 1st November and it finished on 7th November. We then had unprotected sex the next day on 8th November when the incident occurred. Would this be a high or low risk time for her to conceive? Is it really necessary for her to take the ECP pill?

Brief Answer:
It is the fertile period of her cycle

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

It is a fertile period of her cycle, which means she can conceive. I would recommend the ECP but it is npt necessary and depends entirely upon you and your partner, but please let me know which pills she is on and write back to me so I can look out for any drug interaction and rule out her fears.

Looking forward to hearing from you sir.

Best wishes.
