Question : Can a 4.5 years child take amoxicillin oral and azithromycin oral on same day for typhoid fever

Do not use 2 antibiotics for typhoid please

Detailed Answer:
Hi.....using 2 antibiotics at the same time for typhoid fever is unscientific please.

Please do not use both AMOXICILLIN and AZITHROMYCIN.

I suggest you use only AZITHROMYCIN as a single antibiotic.... provided the diagnosis of Typhoid is correct.

If you can get back to me with weight of the kid, then I can suggest you the dosing and duration of AZITHROMYCIN please.

Hi.... You can give Syrup Azilide (200mg/5ml strength), 7.5ml once daily for total 7 days.

AZITHROMYCIN is not well absorbed with food. You need to give it either 1 hour before food or 4 hours after food.
