Can Encoraye Chrono Be Taken During Pregnancy?

Question: Hi XXXXXXX

I am XXXX. I had fits 5 years back. I have been using Encorate Chrono 200mg 2 Tab a day since last 5 years. I am currently 2 months pregnant and I wanted to know if I need to stop using this tablet and use any other tablet during my pregnancy?

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted that you are using encorate chrono (sodium valproate) during pregnancy.

Sodium valproate can increase the risk of malformations in the developing baby (foetus). Therefore, it should not be taken during pregnancy.

Other tablets such as levetiracetam or oxcarbazepine or lamotrigine are safe in pregnancy.
