Can HIV Be Contracted Through Unprotected Oral Sex?

Posted on Tue, 12 Sep 2017
Question: Two days ago I received oral sex from a woman without a condom. She wasn't a prostitute, but she probably has other partners. She sucked my penis for about 1 minute. I was about to cum but managed to withdraw my load. The room was dark. So when she put my penis into her mouth, her I felt she bite it softly. When I asked her whether she bit it, she said no. I checked my penis but there was no scratch or bite mark. I didn't have vaginal intercourse with her. Also my penis was not erect and hard, it was flaccid and soft when she was sucking it.

My question is can I have HIV this way?

Brief Answer:
HIV risk is low with oral sex

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic
Thanks for posting your query.
As per CDC, XXXXXXX USA oral sex carries a low risk for HIV when compared to anal and vaginal sex.
Your sex partner could be free from HIV infection. In that case nothing to worry.
Viral concentration in saliva is very very low not sufficient to cause an infection. But if the individual has some oral pathology like ulcers or bleeding gum then the chances for getting HIV may be a little more. Even then the risk is low only.

Hello doctor

1. I kissed her lips several times and I noticed she had bad breath. Can this be an indication of HIV or any other underlying disease that can be transmitted through oral sex?

2. I heard recipient of oral sex, mostly men can get HIV from a HIV+ positive female only when there's cut or blood on the penis. In my case, I didn't have any cut or open wound. Can I still contract HIV?

Kindly answer

Brief Answer:
Oral sex carries a low risk.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Bad breath is not a symptom specific for HIV infection. Many reasons are there for bad breath including pathology of gastrointestinal system, lung disease, oral problems, inadequate water consumption etc. If it is due to mouth problem it might increase the chance of HIV to an extent.
When there is no ulcer, cracks, excoriation the HIV risk is less. Sometimes minute abrasions are not visible outside, but have the risk.

Brief Answer:
HIV test 12 weeks after the incident relieve mental tension.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Your HIV risk is low. Very much unlikely to have HIV. You can have your HIV 4th generation test 12 weeks after this incident and rule out the least possibility of HIV.
That will relieve the unnecessary mental tension.
Not to worry much
