Posted on Mon, 4 Sep 2017
Question: 3 weeks ago I had unprotected vaginal sex with a girl. a couple weeks after I was diagnosed with chlamydia which I was treated for and now cured. The thought of having HIV is going through my mind to the point I'm almost making myself sick. What are the chances I also caught HIV from one time of unprotected sex?

Brief Answer:
Chlamydia can increase the likelihood of passing on HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for writing in HealthcareMagic.

Based on your history, having unprotected sexual intercourse, you should know that there exists the risk of getting HIV infection.
Chlamydia is an STI that can increase the likelihood of passing on HIV.

Furthermore, in this situation, I suggest doing a 4th generation HIV test after 4-6 weeks from exposure and after 3 months as a conclusive test.

I hope my answer helps you. Feel free to ask further.
Regards.
