Can Microgynon Stop Breakthrough Bleeding?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jun 2016
Question: I am on Yaz and i have been on it for over 6 months, however i did stuff up my cycle by stopping and missing pills roughly a month and a half ago. I am now having breakthrough bleeding for 5 - 6 days, and i am in week 2-3 of my cycle. My period is due in just over a week. My Dr gave me a script for Microgynon 50 - will this stop the breakthrough bleeding and/or suppress my period, if so will it work in the next week? Can i switch over now? or should i wait until after my period ? will the increase in estrogen help to prevent breakthorugh bleeding? or will it bring on my period? I just really dont want to have BTB or my period over the next week (i have plans with my partner). I think my original period is actually due at this time, and i have stuffed it up over the past two months or so, should i just stop taking the pill now and have my period in the next 5 days? My last period came on the 2nd of this month and i was spotting for a few days prior. Im so confused. Thankyou

Brief Answer:
Switch over to Microgynon 50 pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) As you already messed up your cycle and are getting breakthrough bleeding, I can suggest to switch over your pill to Microgynon 50 from today. You should continue those pills regularly on schedule time for next 21 days.

2) Yes, bleeding will stop within few days if you continue them regularly without missing one. Levonorgestrel (contained in Microgynon 50) will help to decrease your bleeding. High dose estrogen is also effective along with that.

3) If you start new pill (as per doctor's prescription), hopefully, you can meet or do sex with your partner in the next week. Maintain genital hygiene properly.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.

Thankyou, just to clarify, I start taking this pill Tommorow morning (when my pill is due) and then take this new pill for 21 days? Which means I won't get my period next week? I will get it in 4 weeks?

Should I take the new pill tonight? Or wait until the morning when the dose is due?

Brief Answer:
Start from tomorrow morning.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for follow up query.

You should start taking New Pill from tomorrow morning when your previous pill or dose will be due.

You will get your next period after completing of new pill pack i.e. on 4th week. You don't get your period in next week if you take the pill regularly.

Hope, it helps for your information. Good luck and take care.
