What Causes Delay In Periods And Abdominal Pain After Taking Contraceptive Pills?

Hi there,

I took emergency contraceptive - Levonelle 22 days ago and i still have not got my period. I took the tablet within 72 hours of sex, and have experienced lower abdominal pain (like period pains) ever since. How long will i have to wait for my period to come...i'm sick of waiting now =[

Hi,

Levonelle is an emergency contraceptive and when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, it prevents conception by postponing ovulation. Being high dose hormonal preparation, it causes delay in next period by 8-10 days. You would get your period by that time.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
