Brief Answer:
Bright lights and loud noises can cause epilepsy and migraine attacks

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in details.
Hydrocephalus is a condition where there is an excess of brain fluids. This can happen due to increased generation or decreased clearance due to possible obstructive and non obstructive causes.

Epilepsy and migraines can happen due to hydrocephalus. The symptoms of epilepsy and migraine can also be precipitated by bright lights and loud sounds at night. These stimuli might cause certain electrical stimuli in your brain leading to epilepsy or migraine attacks.

To prevent epilepsy and migraine attacks, you have been asked to stay away from bright lights and loud noises at night.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,

So what you are saying is that it can only happen at night, or lights and sounds can cause an
Epileptic seizure anytime????

Brief Answer:
Chances are more during the night

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with update.

The attacks can happen at any time but occur more at night due to the following reasons.

(i) Frequency of the flash (that is, how quickly the light is flashing)
(ii) Brightness
(iii) Contrast with background lighting
(iv) Distance between the viewer and the light source
(v) Wavelength of the light

As these take place more often at night therefore the chances are higher.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
