Brief Answer:
find the answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic, I share your concern and I will try to help you out in best possible way.
Vertigo is caused by either problem in middle ear causing imbalance or due to problem in cerebellum in brain, which controls balance and equilibrium.
Hence if there are no above said problems, a person is unlikely to get vertigo.
Alcohol consumption causes loosing of balance as a result of blurring of senses rather than vertigo. alcohol levels when increases in brain, it even shuts down the alert center in brain by altering neurotransmitters there by mimicking comatose condition. but never vertigo.
There are no available studies to indicate influence of alcohol on maintaining equilibrium and in turn causing vertigo.
Hope this clarifies your doubts. Revert back to me if you have follow up queries.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.

Does the fact that I have two metal hips, implanted 22 years ago, have a greater propensity to affect my current vertigo?

Brief Answer:
Its less likely.

Detailed Answer:
welcome back.
Metal implants are not known to cause vertigo, more so when they are in hip joints. However if there was an implant in middle ear.. there might have been a chance. Hence I recommend you to visit an ENT specialist and get evaluated clinically for vertigo, because neither alcohol nor metal implants are causing vertigo. Also, most common cause for vertigo is middle ear infection.
Meanwhile if vertigo is persisting, you can take tab vertin 8 mg before sleep for 3 days.
Hope this helps you.
