Can Weakness In Ear Cause Vertigo?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Nov 2014
Question: I had VNG testing done for vestibular weekness. The test showed 7 percent weekness in my left ear. However, the results were considered normal. My hearing is normal. I went to see a Neurologist and so far nothing has been found and Neurologist says most likely nothing neurologically going on. I will get my MRI results next week.

My question is can a 7 percent weekness in the left ear cause vertigo?

Brief Answer:
No,should exclude other causes too....

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

1. I have gone through your medical history and noted that you are taking insulin to lower your blood sugar levels (you are a diabetic). Oscillations in blood sugar (bs) should be considered as possible causes to your vertigo.

If you were my patient, I'd advise to monitor your:
- bs
- blood pressure

at the moment you are having vertigo episode

2. A 7 percent weakness in your left ear is not enough to cause vertigo. I'd advise to wait for MRI results to evaluate other possible brain issues.

3. Other causes of vertigo might include:
- osteoarthritis of vertebral spine
- atherosclerosis

Hope it helped!
