Brief Answer:
Maybe you need sedatives.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms. XXXX,

Thanks for choosing posting your question.

From the information you have provided I can understand how difficult it must be for you and I appreciate that you are taking the appropriate steps to overcome this problem.

I would like to inform you that I am only a general practitioner and I am not a specialist in psychiatry or psychology.

You have mentioned that CB therapy has been working for you, I would like to know to what extent, It would be helpful if you can share with me details about how your condition was before you started on CB therapy and how it is now.

When did the sleep disturbance start, after or before or after starting Cognitive behavior therapy? And what about nausea and vomiting?

Are you on any medicines right now? If yes, what are those?

From the limited information, I can only suggest a few things,

1. Have you tried any sedative medicines like valium or alprazolam? If no, they may be of some us in your case.

2. Have you tried anti-emetic medicines like Ondansetron for nausea and vomiting?
If no, I am sure you will benefit from that as well.

It would also help me understand your condition better if you could tell me more about your nausea and vomiting, like when did it start, how long have you been having this problem, what makes it worse and what makes it better, do you have any pain in the tummy?

Please do write back to me with answers so that I may try to understand your problem better and suggest you the possible courses of action.

Awaiting your response.

Warm regards.

I have been having CB therapy ever since I was diagnosed with GAD. my psychiatrist determined that I have GAD after I had a manic episode.

I had the manic episode because my primary doctor prescribed me an antidepressant because I had trouble sleeping and I wasn't able to eat.

this was about two months after I had my gall bladder removed in May 2011.

now I have been thinking about how I came out of anesthesia back then compared to the abdominal surgery that I had two weeks ago. I woke up in the middle of a panic attack in 2011. this surgery, however, I had started to have an anxiety attack, but I was able to calm myself down (probably thanks to the CB therapy).

Brief Answer:
Your coping is commendable.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms XXXX,

Thanks for writing back with all the details.

Your story is quite intriguing, as you have outlined the events, it seems like you had a pretty bad post operative experience during your first surgery which might have been triggered by the anesthetic that was administered, this is a possibility but I would agree with your psychiatrists' diagnosis of Generalized anxiety disorder because of the continuation of your symptoms.

In light of this, it is quite likely that GAD is the cause for you to stay awake. I sincerely hope you will soon get out of it through CB therapy from your psychiatrist, it most certainly seems to be working.

As outlined earlier, some benzodiazepene sedatives might help you fall asleep, but they come with the baggage of addiction which will become a major headache later on. As for vomiting you should request your doctor for a referral to a gastroenterologist (Medical) to rule out any organic cause and proper treatment.

Please continue with CB therapy. Try meditation and indulge in watching some interesting videos and lectures, internet is a very good source of information and entertainment, you will find many videos on youtube which are related to science which are quite amazing, I hope you will find something which takes your mind off of your problems, that will certainly help you overcome this temporary problem of yours.

We human beings have immense capabilities, we just have to find the right portal for letting our creative self express fully.

Don't pity your condition, it is just a phase I am sure you are capable of overcoming this.

I sincerely hope I have helped in some way. Please write back to me if you need further assistance.

Wishing you good health.

Warm regards,
