Hello,

Tryptomer is an older antidepressant, also serving to reduce anxiety and calm the nervous system. When someone has been on it for weeks or months and suddenly stops, the body can become a bit more sensitive or overactive for a while. It is not usually dangerous on its own, directly causing high blood pressure, but withdrawal from it can make your anxiety spike again… and anxiety itself can push blood pressure up.

From what you described, the timing fits more with your anxiety increasing again after stopping Tryptomer, rather than the medicine “causing” high blood pressure. Many patients feel physical symptoms like racing heart, tense muscles, and rising pressure when their anxiety flares back up.

Yes, if the blood pressure is persistently high even when one is calm, or in the event of headaches, chest discomfort, or even dizziness, then a doctor must be visited in person. We cannot assume anxiety for everything. You remain on Paroxetine CR, which is helpful, but it does take time for complete stabilization of anxiety. Sometimes, when a medicine is discontinued, adjustment of the dose or timing of the remaining medicine is needed.

What I would suggest:
• Do not restart Tryptomer on your own
• Monitor your BP through the day, especially during rest
• If it is high consistently, your medications should be reviewed by your psychiatrist or general physician
• If it only spikes when you feel anxious or panicky, that points strongly toward your anxiety returning, and not a dangerous blood pressure problem

Stopping Tryptomer 20 days ago would have given your system sufficient time to feel the lack of its soothing effect. That's what you are probably feeling. Do not neglect your symptoms, especially while struggling with depression and anxiety for many years. Get your medications rebalanced once more through a short follow-up appointment with your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further query I will be happy to help. Wish you good health.

Regards,
