Do Diarrhea, Stomach Cramps And Bloating Needs Medical Attention?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 May 2016
Question: This past sunday, I experienced what I thought might be a case of food poisoning. I woke up at 4 in the morning with severe cramps, resulting in diarrhea. A very powerful movement and the pain subsided. I felt weak and chilled for the next day but did not have a fever. Over the next couple of days everything started getting back to normal. Howver, I still don't feel quite 100%. I don't feel bad. When I eat I get a slight gassy bloated feeling, not painful, resulting in some mild belching. The biggest question mark has been my temperature. Out of curiosity, I have taken it the past couple of days and it is ranging from 96.6 to 97.6. Could this just lingering effects? Realising that I am not a kid anymore and recovery times take longer, I don't want to go to see a doctor if it isn't necessary.

Brief Answer:
doesn't seem necessary...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

if there was no blood in your stool (either red "fresh" blood or black tarry digested blood) then this incident was likely a food poisoning. Since you got better and don't have symptoms any more, there is no reason to worry. Your temperature is OK. Feeling a little sick is not unusual after a gastroenteritis although your case was not that intense to justify a serious aftereffect.

Usually the intestine needs 24-48 hours to recover after intestinal inflammation but depending on the cause more time might be needed for the patient to feel healthy. Unless new symptoms arise, I don't see any reason to visit a doctor at this time.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
