Brief Answer:
No need to panic about dengue

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections and antibiotics are ineffective in such cases. Irrespective of treatment it usually spontaneously resolves in 5-7 days.

Let me mention that dengue is a type of viral infection. You need not be alarmed about dengue. Moreover, the presence of cough makes dengue relatively unlikely. Nevertheless, you can feel free to get him tested. The primary concern about dengue is because a very small percentage of the affected individuals may develop dengue shock syndrome (DSS) where fluid moves out of the blood vessels and unless that fluid is replaced (by drinking plenty of ORS, water or through IV fluids) vascular collapse and therefore shock may result. But even in case of DSS all that needs to be done is to ensure a good hydration, nothing more. So, you need not panic about dengue. Just give him plenty of fluids to drink.

You need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Just sit with your child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief. Use Nasoclear Saline Nasal Drops in case of nose block.

If your child has fever with temperature more than 100°F, you need to give paracetamol (P-250, Crocin or Calpol) to it bring down. Also use tepid sponging. If paracetamol is not effective in bringing down the temperature, you need to use Meftal-P (mefenamic acid) which is more effective.

Please be patient.

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation is the mainstay of treatment.

Detailed Answer:
You can continue to give Ascoril LS but steam inhalation has a much better effect than cough syrups. Cough syrups are in fact more for the mind than for the body. The recovery follows the normal course and since you are giving cough syrups they seem to do the trick (which they don't). No cough syrups other than Ascoril LS are required.
