Does Chantix Show Up In A Drug Test?

Question : Hello. I just got a contingent offer at a new place of employment. They told me - after I notified my current employer that I was leaving- that I will have a nicotine test. I smoke a pack a day. I have 7 days until the test. I quickly called my doctor who has called in a prescription for Chantix. Will this show up on my drug test? I take ADHD medication and will inform them of that. But I also take Effexor (75 mg), Depakote (250 mg), and Serequol (25 mg). I don't want them to know about this. Will it show up?! I live in Ohio- can they really not hire me if I fail this test for Nicotine?! Please help!

Hello, and thanks for your question.

None of the medications you mention above will show up in a drug test. However, because you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, nicotine will show up in the test. Hiring practices are different from company to company -- the only way you can find out if they won't hire a person with smoking history, is to ask them directly.
