Question : Hello, I had a high risk encounter for hiv. At 9 days I took the Hiv Rna Pcr Quantitative test, negative. Some doctors here say its 99.7% accurate is that true?

It was unprotected receptive anal sex with a stranger who claimed to be hiv negative. I will do all of the follow up tests but I really need peace of mind. I have huge personal things happening right now and I need to have a very good idea what my status is.

The risk of getting HIV from single unprotected act of anal sex is very unlikely and RNA PCR test after 9 days is also negative so allay the fear or anxiety of HIV as the possibility of positive result is rare.

You need to go for repeat testing after one month to get more reliable and conclusive result. As your friend I will also advice you to stay away from such unsafe sexual practices in future for your safety.
