Question : For the past 2 days I've had blood pressure 175/145 and a resting heart rate of 130, I take 10mg coveram and 25mg metoprolol along with 100 mg thyroxine for hypothyroidism. I also take 0.1mg clonidine and 25mg valdoxan and 25mg metapranol and 150mg quetiapine for PTSD, along with 5mg diazepam x2 daily for anxiety. About 6 weeks ago I developed sepsis and was raced to hospital but I had been very sick with different flu/infections. This time I have not been sick that I know of but the heart rate is making me feel dreadful. I'm wondering if I can take any of the meds that I already have, or should it go away eventually or should I seek medical care. I live in a rural area and it would mean many hours of waiting in a hospital outpatients which I would rather avoid. Kind regards, Colleen

Brief Answer:
Metoprolol now , consider going to the hospital if problem persists.

Detailed Answer:
Hello , I am Dr. Most and I would be addressing your concern .
I went through all the history and medication you take .
I would like to point out that both blood pressure and pulse are too high .
In normal circumstances when the blood pressure rises that pulse goes down . That's the natural way .
So if both are high in most probability there is an reason underlying for the same . Maybe sepsis again / or untreated in your case.

Presently I would start metoprolol 25 mg now and repeat 25 mg after 6 hours , as it will take care of both blood pressure and pulse at the same go .
So total dose today including the routine is 75 mg .

If things don't settle do consider going to a doctor . Cut down on associated anxiety as this would push both pulse and blood pressure further high
Let me know if any further information needed , I am just on the other side .
