Question: Hello

I'm suffering from hiatal hernia and Chronic GERD.

I usually take 1 pill of omeprazol pr.day to keep my acid down.
And some movements I also need a glass of Natriumhydrogencarbonat;"1 tea spoon" to get rid of the reflux.

my question is:

is it safe for my body to take both omeprazol and Natriumhydrogencarbonat ?

Brief Answer:
long term intake of omeprazole casue minimal or no side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for putting your query in hcm.

Long term intake of omeprazole do not cause harm. There is lot of literature suggesting that intake of a proton pump inhibitor for even 15 yrs dont cause any significant side effects. However antacid which you are taking may cause harm. Since only omeprazole is not able to relieve your symptoms so I will suggest you to take the most recent proton pump Iinhibitor Iilaprazole which is much more efficacious than omeprazole and have got lesser side effects than omeprazole. Along with Iilaprazole take a prokinetic agent like cinitapride for more rwlief in symptoms. Among diet avoid spicy, and fatty diet, citrus fruits, tea or coffee. Dont lie down soon after meals at least for 2 hrs and avoid water with meals for at least 2 hrs. Do regular exercise.

Brief Answer:
omeprazole 40mg per day can be taken

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Omeprazole can be taken 40mg per day. Yes baking soda in long term can cause side effects. I am sorry. By mistake I have typed lilaprazole instead of ilaprazole. Yes it must be available in Europe. Check once with your pharmacy.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you.
Wish you a good health
