Question: Sir, My question is towards using 'Statins' Recently I have underwent test for Lipid profile . The values are Cholesterol 204, HDL 56, LDL 131, Tryglycerides 86 . Is it necessary to use statins. I am having BP for the last 2 months. Now it is 130 /80. Other clinical reports such as CBP, creatinine and sugar levels are in permissible levels. In this situation is it necessary to use statins. My age is 68. P. S .Ram

Brief Answer:
Statins are highly recommended in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,

I can understand your concerns.

I have gone through your lipid profile in detail.

Its always advisable to take low dose statins in your case (Considering your age, lipid profile and Hypertension).

I generally advise my patients with oral tablets of Tab.Atorvas 10 mg.So please discuss with your doctor whether he shares my opinion.

I also advise you to get periodic cardiac check up (ECG,lipid profile,Hs CRP,Liver function tests and Renal profile) for every 6 months and follow up with your cardiologist.

Avoid smoking and alcohol if any.

Exercise daily for 20-30 min.

Restrict your salt intake to <6 gm/day.

Avoid oily and spicy foods.Use cholesterol free cooking oils.

Post your further queries if any,
Thank you.
