Brief Answer:
It can cause secondary glaucomas.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.
I reviewed your history.

Cataract surgery with lens implantation can cause glaucoma. But this relatively rare and not very common in clinical practice.
Cataract surgery with lens implantation can cause glaucoma by either inflammation induced by cataract surgery called as inflammatory glaucoma or by the intraocular lens obstructing the flow of aqueous humor from posterior chamber to anterior chamber called as lens block glaucoma or pupillary block glaucoma.
These two varieties of glaucoma can be treated for complete cure unlike the primary open angle or narrow angle glaucoma.

Hence please provide me more details like examination reports, vision, intraocular pressure..... so that I can advice you more accurately.

Hope the information is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards

I haven't asked dr which kind i have. Results of surgery--rt. eye is 20/25 and left eye is 20/30. Pressure in rt. eye is 19 and in left eye is 18--peripheral vision is good--no floaters. Had infection in left eye which XXXXXXX cured quickly with no vision impairment. I understand that the Venlafaxine antidepresant i am taking can cause eye problems of some sort--? What is your opinion?

Brief Answer:
It appears because of side effect of Venlafaxine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam

Welcome to Health care Magic.

I reviewed your history. Thank you for providing the details.

It seems from the history that you had infection in left eye following cataract surgery which has been treated successfully.
Since the vision is good in both the eyes and intraocular pressure in both the eyes is increased, it looks like side effect of the drug, Venlafaxine.
Venlafaxine is an anti depressant and it is known to increase the intraocular pressure.
Since the intraocular pressure is increased in both the eyes this appears to be the cause.
Since even with treatment by Latanoprost you need to consult your doctor for changing the Venlafaxine by another appropriate drug.
Cataract surgery and inflammation or infection following the surgery will increase the intraocular pressure. But this will usually resolve with treatment and it will involve only the affected eye. Since in your case the intraocular pressure is increased in both the eyes I feel the increased intraocular pressure is because of the side effect of the drug, Venlafaxine.

Hope the information is helpful to you.
