Does Intake Of Atenolol Increase The Risk Of Diabetes?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 May 2016
Question: I have been prescribed to start taking 50mg of atenolol. For last five years have been on bystolic 10mg. I have skipped beats several times. daily and average blood pressure in 140s over 85 - 90. Also on losarttan 100mg and clonidine 0.1 mg. My problem I am worried that the atenolol will increase my chance of diabetes. I have compared the two to studies. Bystolic costs me 100 dollars more as insurance will not pay for it. Should i take it anyway? My dr is a D.O.

The possibility to cause diabetes is not much

Dear Mrs,

Of course, Bystolic is more selective and newer medication. But Atenolol is not too bad.
If you are not overweight and have no hereditary of diabetes, then you have almost no chances to develop diabetes with Atenolol.
