Brief Answer:
lisinopril is safe

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

lisinopril belongs to a class of antihypertensives called ACE inhibitors. It is the drug of choice for hypertension in diabetics and in kidney patients but there is one catch, it can increase creatinine and potassium levels because of its mechanism of action. but it has been seen that this effect will occur only in few patients who will have progressive rise in serum creatinine. here the medicine has to be stopped and then the serum creatinine improves completely.

So, you should get creatinine and potassium level before starting the medication and repeat it after 2 weeks and see if creatinine is rising. if it is more than 20% or the previous value, you have to be careful.

best wishes
