Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: Hi, I have been on Tazloc 40 for about 3 years now and my blood pressure is around 130/ 80. My physician checked my BP and it came out to 140/90. He advised Tazloc CT 40. Is it recommended to take a 2nd opinion about the use of this drug or is it a safe option and unlikely to cause disturbances.
My Uric Acid level is 8.3, in case this is of relevance.

Brief Answer:
There are alternatives

Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

You need a second drug
Most people will eventually need a second drug – at times a third also
The range for the upper figure (Systolic) is 90 to 140 mm Hg.
The range for the lower figure (Diastolic) is 60 to 90 mm Hg.
We aim for 130/80

There are many CLASSES of drugs - Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB) / Beta- Blocker / Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitor / Angiotensin Receptor Blocker (ARB) / Diuretic / Direct Renin Inhibitor etc … There are several drugs in each class / Each drug has a dose range / different permutation – combination are often needed

Tazloc is Telmisartan (ARB)
Tazloc CT is a combination of Telmisartan (ARB) and Chlorthalidone (Diuretic).

The diuretic (Chlorthalidone) may increase blood levels of uric acid (does not usually cause gout).
It may be taken and uric acid levels checked … (as also potassium and calcium)

As an alternative, a - Calcium Channel Blocker, like amlodipine may be used / combination by the same brand like Tazloc AM – are available and approved
There is a wide choice indeed – to suit different situations.

Discuss with your physician and/or have a second opinion

Good luck
God bless you
