default
Posted on Fri, 5 May 2017
Question: Dear doctor i recently bought a vape (electronic cigarrette) i was told the e- liquid inside consists of organic flavoring and 0 percent nicotine and tobacco free. Im not a smoker so using this once in a while like once a month i was wondering if if would be harmful to me? Especially considering im taking anti depressant medication cipralrx 20mg daily. Also iv been told yoghurt and blue cheese is good for my gastritis by friends and family however online research says the opposite suggesting that these foods will make my gastritis worse especially if i am lactose intolerant.. i dont think i have problem with milk. Could you please clarify this too. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Probiotics are good or gastric problems and gastritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Have gone through all your details and i appreciate your concern..

Using something which is free of nicotine and tobacco once in a month is not going to be harmful.Even using tobacco or nicotine once in a month is also not going to be harmful to body.As the flavour you are using is organic and nicotine free it has nothing that can do harm to your body.
Use of any stimulant(which stimulates our nervous system) like Caffeine,Nicotine or Tobacco is contraindicated with antidepressants as they may stimulate the nervous system and hamper the effect of antidepressant but as the product you are using has no stimulant in it;It has no interaction with therapy you are on.

A 2012 research paper entitled Levels of selected carcinogens and toxicants in vapor from electronic cigarettes: found that the e-cigarette vapors contained some toxic substances. The levels of the toxicants were 9–450 times lower than in cigarette smoke and were, in many cases, comparable with trace amounts found in the reference product."

A 2012 study entitled Comparison of the effects of e-cigarette vapor and cigarette smoke on indoor air quality: "For all byproducts measured, electronic cigarettes produce very small exposures relative to tobacco cigarettes. The study indicates no apparent risk to human health from e-cigarette emissions based on the compounds analyzed."

A 2012 Greek study entitled Acute effects of using an electronic nicotine-delivery device on myocardial function: comparison with regular cigarettes: "Absence of combustion and different chemical composition, leading to less toxic chemicals created and absorbed."

These are few refrence trials and studies done to see the effect of vaping on body.So once in a month i don't think its going to effect your body.

Blue cheese and Yoghurt contains a number of good bacteria's medically termed as probiotics.Probiotics are beneficial bacteria purported to regulate the digestive tract, prevent and treat urinary tract and vaginal yeast infections, improve recovery of intestinal problems, and possibly reduce the length and severity of gastric symptoms. So in case you are not lactose intolerant they are very good for your digestion and gastritis.
" Foods like yogurt and kefir (fermented milk) contain “good bacteria” that can inhibit Helicobacter. pylori and may help to recover from gastritis faster."

In fact you should take one glass of cold milk before going to bed.Cold milk is alkaline in nature and neutralise the acid in stomach.

Hope i aswered your query well.
In case you need any other professional advice feel free to ask.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
There is a old saying that "Rome was not built in a day" and "Too much of any thing is good for nothing"

You are not lactose intolerant but try to understand the physiology of your body.Your body needs time to adapt to changes. If you are introducing a change whether it's exercise or food habits, always do it gradually.Try to increase your limits gradually.Having a heart related event at a age if 24 is highly unlikely. However an E.K.G can be done to be on safe side.
For increased levels of anxiety it would be better to use a anxiolytic along with antidepressant.Anxiolytic in low doses will help you maintain your anxiety levels.
Increased anxiety stimulates your autonomous nervous system and increases the symptoms of anxiety.

In case of any other query feel free to follow up.

Hi doc

I didnt say it was causing heart pain its just causing chest pain leading to further anxiety due to chest weight training. Im curious to know why this happens? As opposed to training other body muscles?

Also i didnt receive a response regarding to the papaya tea im drinking ? I would like to know if it would be beneficiary for my gastritis and/or anxiety and if it will help my condition? And if there are any other herbal remedies i could try to cure myself.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Your chest consists of mainly two mucles the big one is called pectoralis major while the small one is called pectoralis minor.
The mass and strength of both these muscles is much small as compared to the mass of leg or shoulder muscles.
Trying heavy weight is causing extrapressure on pectoralis muscles. So best way is to listen to your body increase weights gradually. Try to understand the physiology of body, muscles in your chest are much weaker then your limbs so you have to increase your limits gradually.

Papaya leaf tea is excellent for prevention of gastritis and heartburn however role in relieving anxiety is yet not documented in standard literature. So you can take it.It will definitely help you with your symptoms of Gastritis.

Though not asked yet for anxiety i would recommend you-
Kava kava (Piper methysticum).
It is a shrub from the South Pacific islands that has been used for centuries to produce calming effects in humans. Studies have found benefit of kava in the treatment of anxiety, and preliminary trialw suggests that kava may be equivalent to benzodiazepine drugs such as diazepam (Anxiolytics). So i would suggest you to start it.

Ginger can also effectively treat gastritis due to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It can reduce inflammation and treat the infection as well as alleviate symptoms like stomach pain, gas, indigestion, nausea and bloating. Add 1 teaspoon of freshly chopped ginger root to 1 cup of boiling water and drink it every morning.

Apple cidar vinegar in dosages of 1 to 3 teaspoons up to 3 times per day after meals. Apple Cider Vinegar aids as a naturopathy agent. It prevents gastritis by increasing the production of hydrochloric acid.

Eat foods that heal the gut and help increase vitamin B12 absorption. Probiotics such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species are beneficial bacteria that colonize the soft lining of the intestinal tract and thus heal the digestive system.

If you add broccoli sprouts to your diet to relieve gastritis , you may have to keep eating them on a regular basis to maintain the benefit. Yogurt. Some yogurts contain active cultures that can help regulate the balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut.

Lemon juice is also very effective in treating symptoms or gastritis and also reducing inflammation.

There are some Anti-Anxiety Herbs to Reduce Stress like Ashwagandha, passionflower,Magnesium,High Quality Green and Black Teas,Lavender and Kava.Take them.

You can try them they are all natural and would definitely help you in long terms.
