Have Tiny Black Spots On Leg. Any Ideas What It Could Be?

default
Posted on Sat, 1 Dec 2012
Question: My 10 year old daughter has the tiniest black spot on her leg above her foot. It looks like a scab but it doesn't go away. At one point it came off when she picked at it but came back. She has had it for months. It doesn't seem to get any bigger but it doesn't look like a mole and doesn't act like a scab. Any ideas what it could be?

Dear XXXXXXX,

I think she got the black spot due to bleeding
under the skin which is called purpura. That is why it does not
goes away with pressure. As you mentioned it came off when
she picked at due to release of blood. I feel it is a condition
which is called purpura simplex or fragile capillary syndrome.
Here the the capillary breaks and the bleeding occurs under
skin. It is rarely life threatening. It disappears and comes back, may stay
for long time. There is no effective treatment. The purpura can
be caused by defective and low platelets in blood. It can caused by
many different conditions like infective, toxic, and allergy.
I think you should take her to a Paeditrician who will examine
her and will do baseline blood tests and advise you. If you get any
queries please contact me.
Kindest regards Dr S.K.Mukherjee
