Hi,

Thanks for posting your query to XXXXXXX

Since your granddaughter has incurred some bruising over the thigh her doctor wants to rule out platelet disorder.

If the bruising happened spontaneously without any trauma , her doctor wants to know whether the bruise happened due to less platelet count or due to their abnormal function in the body.

Platelets help in the clotting of blood in the body along with other coagulation factors and blood vessel wall endothelium.

Sometime an Acute Thrombocytopenia Purpura I.e low platelet count which is an autoimmune disorder leads to this kind of bruising .Also some viruses can get the platelet down temporarily .

If the counts are normal in your granddaughter then probably you can relax.

Hope to have answered your query.

Take care.
