Question: Hi,

I have a 6 month old daughter. She is having cold since 3 days (thursday), with running nose (mucus is not yellow, but thick) and blocked nose. Last night she had a temperature of 101. Now in the morning her temperature is 99.8. Is it normal should she be diagnosed?

thanks

Brief Answer:
mostly viral

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Reg cold and running nose it is most probably viral - so wait for another 48 hrs before antibiotics.

The mucus is not yellow - suggests there is no secondary bacterial infection yet.

For blocked nose you can use otrivin pediatric nasal drops 3;times per day before feeds for 3-4 days.

Of course you can use paracetamolsyrup or drops for fever.

If the mucus becomes yellow or if the fever keeps increasing or if she is refusing feeds and not active, you have to immediately go the doctor.

Good luck

God bless
