Brief Answer:
Causes and management of Urogenital pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

There are few possible causes that need to be considered with pain in the urogenital area in postmenopausal women. Urinary tract infection, Atrophic vaginitis/ urethritis (which is thinning of vaginal, urethral and bladder mucosa due to lack of estrogen) and uterine prolapse (which can cause pressure sensation along with pain) are all possible causes.
A physical examination and pelvic/ vaginal examination is needed as an initial screening. Urine analysis and culture, pelvic ultrasound required to make a definite diagnosis. Sometimes these conditions can be co-existant too.
Treatment depends on the cause. UTI is treated with antibiotics. Atrophic vaginitis with hormone replacement (vaginal estrogen creams are available) and uterine prolapse with pelvic floor strengthening exercise, pessary or surgery.
Please be advised to follow up with a gynecologist for further evaluation and management.
