Question : How long do I need to wait to take Coartem after consuming alcohol? It has been over 12 hours now. Is that enough? I weigh 115 LBS and consumed 5 drinks yesterday. I need to begin Coartem for Lyme Disease.

Alcohol is essentially ethanol, though coartem does interact with a number of different drugs, it does not interact with alcohol/ethanol.

It is known to interact with ketoconazole (an antifungal medication), some anti viral drugs and an antibiotic called rifampin and affect OCP among other reactions but it is not known to affect alcohol/ethanol or visa versa.

This means that you can safely use your medication.
