Question : I'd like to know if my IUI was timed incorrectly. On Friday morning, I took the hCG trigger shot to induce ovulation. I had an IUI 24 hours later on Saturday morning. About nine hours after my IUI, I began to feel ovulation pain on my right side, which lasted for four hours. Do you think my IUI was scheduled too early? It seems that most women get IUIs 36 hours after their trigger shot and that the best time to get an IUI is six hours before or after ovulation. I don't think I started to ovulate until nine hours after the procedure. Do you think I still have a chance for pregnancy this cycle, or would most of the sperm deposited into my uterus have died nine hours after the IUI? I have read that washed sperm don't live as long. In this case the sperm was fresh and collected from my husband.

                                    Brief Answer:
IUI timing
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I read your query and I understand your concerns.
Following is my reply
1. You are right. IUI was scheduled bit early.
2. Ovulation occurs approximately around 36 hours after inj.
3. But sperms do survive for about 24 hours and hence its not too early.
4. If you dont conceive this cycle request doctor to schedule inj around 36 hours next time.
5. The pain you described is ovulation pain.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
