Is ELISA Test Done One Months After Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Nov 2015
Question: Dear Doctor,

i had a slight exposure to risk a few months ago.

i took an ELISA test 50 days after exposure.
but i am worried because i am unsure of the accurate window to wait for this kind of test.

my test said:

HIV I and II AB/AG (ELISA) NONREACTIVE.

i read that new generation tests can be conclusive in 25 days. But i am not sure if my test requires 3 months window.

Brief Answer:
Almost considered negative for HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Welcome to health care magic. I have gone through the details.

The antibodies to HIV are formed usually by 2-6 weeks, maximum by 12 weeks post exposure.
The antigens are formed at earlier stage but are not very Conclusive. Combo test ( which detects both antigen and antibody) is considered almost conclusive by 1 month .
The chances of HIV tests becoming positive later is almost nil.
It is better to go for Elisa for HIV, again after 12 weeks or 3 months to be relieved of anxiety .

You can get back for any clarification.
Thank you

Dear Doctor Bharatesh,

Thank you for your patience and detailed answer.

Is the ELISA ab/ag same as a combo test?
or is a combo test a different test?
