Is HIV Duos Test Done 15 Years After Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Mar 2017
Question: Hello
I Contract cmv virus back in 2001. After 3 minutes I tested for HIV and was hiv negative, even though I was unwell at the time. Two months later I tested again and was again HIV negative. More recently I had the duo hiv test in XXXXXXX 2016 (antibody and antigen) at A lot cal hospital laboratory and the result was again hiv negative. I have been told that this test is conclusive regardless of symptoms and having contracted cmv back in 2001. Can I safely assume that this is the case - I have had no unprotected sex since 2001.Is it possible that because so much time has elapsed so nice m exposure in 2001 that the negative test result last year has given a false negative or can I relax and accept that a negative result is negative and I cannot be positive because of this

Brief Answer:
The result is 100% conclusive.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM.

You had negative HIV Duos test after 15 years of ur exposure and there is no history of any unsafe act of sex after that then the result is definitely reliable and conclusive. There is no chance of false result and you are not positive as the window period for HIV infection also varies from 15days to 3 months.

You are 100% safe and risk free from HIV even with positive CMV report so be relaxed, forget about the episode and move on in life. No need to go for any further test for HIV also. If still you have any query left feel free to ask and I am here to help you out.

Thank You

Thanks for your response.

So I am correct with my understanding that it is indeed possible to Contract CMV through a sexual encounter and suffer all the CMV symptoms for several weeks but not to have contracted HIV? I was advised of this previously but after recent reading on the internet have started to question this.

Also is the HIV duo test the "best test" which you can take? Am starting to worry that something could be wrong even though the duo test was negative.

No need to worry at all.

Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

You are absolutely right with your thoughts and any HIV test whether Duos or any other after 3 months is considered best necause the window period for HIV varies from 15days to 3 months so nothing to worry at all as every thing is absolutely fine dear.
