Brief Answer:
Please do the test 6 months after exposure for complete confirmation

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. There are many types of card tests for HIV and I guess your test was for HIV 1 and HIV 2 antibodies and result is negative. Please upload a copy of your report for accurate interpretation.

2. If your test was done on 89 days after exposure then the it is more than 95 percent conclusive.

3. For complete confirmation please do the test again 6 months after the probable exposure.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
The 6 months test is recommended for people in XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. You have probably got test for HIV 1 and HIV 2 antibodies done and it is negative. You can go back to the laboratory and ask for a detailed report telling that your doctor wants to see it.

2. The latest test for HIV testing which is recommended internationally is rapid 4th generation HIV test for HIV 1 and HIV 2 antibodies and p24 antigen. This test is conclusive for HIV 1 infection after 30 days in countries like the US where there is only HIV 1 infection.

3. However because you are in XXXXXXX therefore there is a 2 percent risk of HIV 2 infection. Therefore the test for HIV 2 antibodies is to be done after 6 months. There is no separate test for HIV 2 infection and you can get tested for HIV 1 and HIV 2 antibodies after 6 months from exposure for confirmation. This is because HIV 2 infection has maximum window periods of 6 months and there is no other test which can look for this infection.

4. There is no need to have mental tension because 89 day test is negative and this means 95 percent that you do not have HIV infection.

5. If you do the test 6 months from exposure and if the result is negative then it will be completely confirmed that you are safe from HIV infection.

Hope your query is answered.
