Is Nasonex Advisable For Sinusitis?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Feb 2017
Question: I am being treated for breast cancer. I wanted to get my Nasonex refilled again. (Ihaven't used it in 2 years). My sinus condition is flairing up again and it has helped in the past, but on looking at this site, now I am wondering if I should just get something like Hydra sense on the shelf?

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation and saline nasal rinse should be enough

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Sinusitis is an infection of sinues, the air pockets contained in our skull. It is most often caused due to viral although occasionally there is a superadded bacterial infection present. Antibiotics or any other medicines cannot reach the sinuses properly and sinuses have a poor blood supply. Taking steam inhalation can provide relief as it helps in opening up the openings of the sinuses that have been blocked by thickened mucus. Water in form of vapor will reach deep inside and will help in dilute the thickened mucus. Saline nasal rinse is also very effective. Nasonex can be taken but I doubt if that is needed. Nasonex contains a steroid which depresses immunity and hence I would not recommend that at this stage.
