Is Ventolin Syrup Advisable For Child With Dry Cough And Cold?

My niece has some ventolin syrup for dry cough at night. She is 5 years old. Me and my husband get a really bad dry cough at night if we get a cold sometimes. Can we also use the ventolin syrup. We dont have asthma or anything. Is it harmful to use if we only use it if coughing is dry and at night? We have used a couple times and it has helped. Would there be any side effects or anything?
No, it is not harmful but better to avoid it.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Ventorlin is having salbutamol.
It is beta 2 agonist. It is actually bronchodilator.
It is usually prescribed for asthma and bronchitis.
It is not harmful drug if you take. But better to avoid it for simple dry cough.
Simple antihistamine syrup is sufficient for this.
But I want to make point that if you are improving with ventorlin then get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out asthma. Because dry cough at night is common symptom of asthma.
So better to avoid ventorlin without diagnosis.
But no need to worry for side effects if you have already taken it.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
