Brief Answer:
it may spread with sexual contacts

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the viruses replicate when they invade the host. Transmission occurs with contact. If it's in the genitals then it has to be sexual contact. HPV may invade the skin and the mucosal surfaces. There are many types of this virus some of them cause skin lesions only, others may invade the genitals and potentially cause cancer. A very well known kind of lesion is condyloma. Condylomas are caused by HPV. Unfortunately HPV is not curable. Skin lesions can be treated but the virus itself cannot be eradicated. You can only avoid coming into contact with it by using condoms and avoiding contacts with carriers of the virus.

There is a vaccine for some types of HPV (the types that cause cancer). Young women have to do the vaccine to prevent contracting the virus. Besides that, there is not much you can do...

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
you can't test for it...

Detailed Answer:
Please keep in mind that most men and women will at some time during their lives contract HPV. In most cases nothing important happens. The HPV may even disappear by itself. In some cases the patient may develop warts (condyloma) or cancer. Symptoms of skin lesions may include itching (or no symptoms). Warts are visible most of the times. Women may have "hidden" warts inside the vagina. Cancer can be asymptomatic at first and there are no specific symptoms that would distinguish it from other disorders. When advanced, the symptoms depend on the involved tissues.

There is no test for HPV in men. You can only adopt safe practices regarding your sexual contacts to avoid contracting HPV (if you haven't already!) and other sexually transmitted diseases. Using a condom at all times is recommended.

Kind Regards!
