Question : Hi doctor I have been having regular periods through out my life. When I did my follicular through scan it was found that the endometrial thickness and ovary growth was optimum. I have been trying to conceive since 6 months.Since then the regular 30 day cycle became irregular ranging from 24days to 35days.
This month my LMP was Feb 1st and went for follicular from 9th day , and given 2 gonal injections in the 11th day and 17th day.I am pills like Ovacare, Folic acid, porgy XXXXXXX and primival. On 17th day my right ovary was 15.5*15mm and on 18th day the follicle has ruptured. Is this premature rupture? Or are there chances of conceiving.pls guide

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy chances are less than 20%.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
A follicle size of 15mm X 15 mm on day 17 is less than optimum. Usually a follicle grows till 20-22 mm and then ruptures to release a mature egg. Also it is best if the egg is released by day 16.
In your case, the ovulation was a bit delayed and the size of ovum was smaller. The chances of conception are lesser. But it is best to wait till your expected time of periods and see if the periods come on time. In case the periods are delayed then do test your urine for pregnancy.

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for the explanation.I have few questions
1. When I did follicular study through scan, 6 months back . The size of the follicular was around 22mm *20mm on 17th day.Now when I have done follicular study this month with ultrasound , the size of follicular is 15.5mm *15.5 mm on 17th day. Which study is better ultra sound or abdomen scan for follicular study

2. What are the causes of premature follicle rupture, how to avoid it.

3.I have not been able to conceive since 6 months,is this the reason for it?

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
1. The follicle size of 20-22 mm was better. After a successful ovulation the chances of pregnancy are higher.
2. At 15 mm the follicle rupture cannot be prevented as it is all controlled by the hormonal levels. HCG injection is given to mature the follicle and to rupture it.
3. This can happen once in a while. The cause of not conceiving can be many. There are other tests also that need to be done. You can consult an infertility specialist for it.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Brief Answer:
Yes it can be the reason.

Detailed Answer:
To get optimum hormone levels and best eggs do some basic things:
1) Avoid stress by yoga/deep breathing regularly (20-30 times).
2) Drink plenty of fluids/water and eat leafy vegetables & fruits.
3) Control body weight by regular physical exercise.
4) Maintain personal hygiene and need proper sleeping.
Start taking Vitamin E and Folic acid supplements and medicines like Ovacare.
Premature follicle rupture can cause failed conception.
