Glaucoma requires evaluation and treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.
I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. I can understand your concern. It is very unfortunate that your father is diagnosed with glaucoma and it seems to be like advanced as only 15% of vision is left.

Glaucoma occurs because of increased intraocular pressure and is characterized by progressive damage to the optic nerve fibres resulting in loss of peripheral field of vision.
Yes it is true that glaucoma is not curable but correct treatment at right time will prevent progression and loss of vision.
There are basically two broad types of glaucoma open angle glaucoma and narrow angle glaucoma. The treatment depends on the sub type and severity of glaucoma.
The treatment options are
1. Anti-glaucoma drugs in the form of eye drops.
2. Laser treatment
3. Surgery in the form of trabeculectomy and other non penetrating glaucoma surgeries

I require more details to answer your question more accurately.

Please mention
1. The diagnosis as told by your doctor.
2. Investigation reports in the form of visual fields, optic disc damage....
3. The treatment he is on presently.

Please get back to me with the above details so that I can answer your question more accurately.

Thank you for writing to Health care magic.

[SG]- Please find the three reports attached.

3. The treatment he is on presently.
[SG] - following are the medicine which are prescribed by doctor

1) Mecoblamin- Nurokind tablet once in night.
2)Latanoprost opthalmic solution(Microemulsion) Latoprost RT--> eye drops to be put in once in a night.

Can you please told me is it in the right direction and what precautions we can use to enhance the vision.

Please suggest food recommendation/eye exercise and things which can help to eradicate the chances of further damage.

I have further searched on the net and Seems like Ayurveda yogas can help a little help in that and we have started with Amla ras and Anulom/Vilom as a complementary things.

Brief Answer:
Reports show moderate to severe glaucoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

I reviewed your history and the reports attached with the question.

The reports show moderate to severe, established glaucoma. I can understand your concern, but I would like to make it clear that the vision he has already lost cannot be reversed by any treatment but the vision which is present right now can be preserved by proper and appropriate treatment.
The first thing to be done is to start treatment with antiglaucoma drugs. Latanoprost is the first line of drug for glaucoma and it can be used.
The intraocular pressure which is 18 now needs to be reduced to around 10-12 and this will prevent further progression of the disease and the loss of vision.

Ayurveda treatment will help to prevent progression of glaucoma by providing protection to the optic nerve fibres.
The substances which are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C are known to be of help and it is one of the latest treatment concept in glaucoma and you can continue amla and others.
Mecobalamine is a vitamin and it also provides protection to the nerve fibres like antioxidants.

The next steps that needs to be done are
1. Monitoring of intraocular pressure atleast weakly once till it reaches 10-12.
2. Measurement of visual fields
3. Regular examination once in 3 months once the intraocular pressure comes to around 12

Hence I advice you that glaucoma can be treated by use of antiglaucoma drugs and vision loss can be prevented but regular follow up and use of drugs as advised is required.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
