Question : hi,,my father age 60 is having low platelet counts arround 85.is it dangerious ..what steps should be taken....and also there are no symptoms of illness..but some red patches has been occured in legs.....plus some times loose motion happens...rest lft test kft test urine test all are normal....what medicine we should give to him

The function of platelets is to control bleeding. it is reported low when less than 0000/cmm. you father is having low platelet count. At 0000/cmm it is an alarming feature to look for the cause and the platelet count should be repeated daily to assess whether the patient is not going to bleed. it can be due to several conditions like thrombocytopenia which its self have different types but nowadays with all other normal conditions the most common cause for platelet count is dengue fever. It can also be idiopathic that is without any cause. the red rash may a petechial hemorrhage which is an alarming sign. There fore it is recommend to seek immediate medical assistance or visit a medical specialist.
