Is It Necessary To Extract Angular Wisdom Tooth?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,
I am having angular wisdom tooth. My wisdom tooth impacted the 2nd molar and damaged it. I have gone through RCT of 2nd molar and there is no pain now. Only capping is left.
My doctor is saying I need to undergo wisdom tooth extraction before capping and then only capping can be done. Is it necessary to extract wisdom tooth?
I am not feeling any pain and any discomfort. Does it has any consequences if I do not get my wisdom tooth extracted and have the capping of 2nd molar which has gone through RCT. I am attaching xrays of both wisdom tooth and 2nd molar after RCT.

Brief Answer:
Extraction of wisdom tooth then go for crown placement .

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX .

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka Tiwari answering your query .

I have read your query and gone through the reports you have attached . Based on what I see is you have Mesioangular impacted wisdom tooth . As far as crown placement on root canal treated second molar tooth is concerned it has consequences without removal of wisdom tooth . See XXXXXXX what happened is firstly mesioangular wisdom tooth will apply pressure on second molar and most common consequence if wisdom tooth is not removed is PERIODONTAL (gum) problem. The presence of wisdom tooth adversely affect the periodontal tissues of adjacent second molar leading to bone loss , periodontal pocket formation and damage to adjacent tooth roots.
For this I will suggest you to consult good oral surgeon and go for removal (extraction) of wisdom tooth and then go for crown placement .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.

Hello Doctor,
Thanks for your reply.
I am very much afraid of extraction.
Can you please elaborate the procedure and how much time will it take for healing.
What precautions should i take for this and is there any risk associated with extraction?

Brief Answer:
simple painless procedure , follow post operative instruction, No Risk.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX ,

Welcome again .

I have read your query and understand your concern . There is nothing to be worried . Extraction is very simple painless procedure done under local anesthesia . Healing of socket takes one week to 15 days . After extraction precautions are you have to follow post operative instructions given by your dentist like Dont eat hot food , Dont do hot formentation , you can eat cold things like ice cream , After 24 hours of extraction you can do warm saline rinses . Dont do vigrous rinsing . If you do vigrous rinsing there would be chances of clot dislodgement . Take proper course of antibiotic prescribed by your dentist for proper healing . There is No risk associated with extraction .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help .
