Is It Necessary To Have An X-ray For Evaluating Soft Tissue Injury?

Question: I hurt my arm on Saturday when we turtle a hobie cat sail boat in rough waters. It is very bruised and tender, but I have full range of motion with out pain. Should I get it x-rayed?

Thanks for posting your query.
The bruise and tenderness is suggestive of a soft tissue injury in the area. Since the full range of motion is present without any pain a bone injury is not likely.
All you have to do now is to allow it to rest and avoid working with right hand. Use anti inflammatory medications prescribed by your physician for few days. Try not to get it in extreme positions unless required. Use of crepe bandage can prove beneficial. Occasional hot fomentation is recommended. Begin movements of wrist and hand gradually.
