Brief Answer:
It was the fertile period.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for posting your query.

If you have always had regular 28-30 day cycles, you had the intercourse during the fertile period. Ovulation occurs two weeks prior to the onset of the next cycle.

Going by this, your possible dates of ovulation are the 19th and 20th of February, considering the due date to be the 3rd of March. Since sperms can retain their activity for 5-7 days, it is possible that you could conceive with intercourse around the dates given.

The best time to test for pregnancy using the home pregnancy kit is 3-7 days after a missed period with a fresh early morning sample of urine. Else, you can also get the serum beta-hCG titres a week before the period is due.

If you do not wish to be pregnant now, you can go for emergency contraception, either the pill or the IUD.

Hope your query has been clarified. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

is it a 100% chance of being pregnant even though we used the withdrawal intercourse? He pulled out before the ejaculation comes.

Brief Answer:
Failure rate is more with withdrawal method.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Even with proper procedure, withdrawal method has a 4% failure rate and this goes up to 27 percent with faulty procedures. The pre-ejaculate is sufficient to cause conception if this happens to be the fertile period.

Thus, I would say the chances of conception are more, but not 100%.

Hope I have answered your query. Please get back if you need any more help. I will be glad to do so.

Brief Answer:
Insertion of an IUD is better.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing again.

In your case, since you practice withdrawal method always and so have the risk of conceiving anytime, I would suggest insertion of the IUD. This will not only help in emergency contraception now, but also in long term contraception.

If you wish to use pills, you can use any of the available levonorgestrel single dose pills. The efficacy of the pill is high, up to 99 percent, if taken soon after the intercourse while it reduces to 85 percent as the margin increases.

Though you can get the pill over the counter, to get a better idea of your clinical state, it is advisable to obtain it through a proper prescription. The pills are preferably taken within 72 hours of the intercourse.

Hope all your queries have been answered. Please contact if you need any more information. I will be ready to help.

I will take this pill only once? Is there any side effect?

Brief Answer:
Menstrual disturbances.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing back.

The emergency pill contains high dose of hormone. As a result, the hormone milieu of the body is disturbed and you can expect withdrawal bleeding a few days after the pill intake and this may last for a couple of days.

Also, the next natural period may get delayed by a week or two. There are also other possible side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea etc., which are usually seen with hormone administration.

If you happen to miss your next natural period by ten days after the intake of the pill, you should see a specialist for further help.

Hope this helps. Please contact for further suggestions.

regards,
Shanti.V.
