Is It Safe To Switch From Valsartan HCTZ To Amlodipine For High BP?

Question: I have high blood pressure. until a few days ago I was taking Valsartan HCTZ but due to some blood work my doctor switched me to amlopine besylate 5 mg and it does not seem to be working But I already took it today. my current home results indicate 174/98 after sitting around for an hour. Should I take the Valsartan do bring it down????

valsrtan dosage 320-25 mg
current dosage of amlodipine is 5mg
I took the amloidpine about 5 hours ago

I would advise you to take half dose of your Valsartan HCTZ now.
Actually 5mg Amlodipine is weaker than Valsartan HCTZ 320/25, I think there will be a need for dose increase during a week.
