Question: My daughter was diagnosed with pleurisy three days ago. She was an antibiotic through an IV at the hospital. She is currently in London and due to fly home to Toronto tomorrow. Should she fly? It's about an 8 hour flight.

Brief Answer:
She can fly if she is improving in pain and chest x ray is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your daughter's situation and problem.
Pleurisy is inflammation of pleura.
And lung infection is most likely cause for this.
So we need to rule out pneumonia first.
Chest x ray is needed to rule out pneumonia.
And she already had chest x ray.
So if her chest x ray is normal, not suggestive of pneumonia and she is improving in pain then she can fly.
But if she is still having pain or x ray is suggestive of pneumonia then better to first resolve this because flying can worsen lung infection.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wishing good health to your daughter.
Thanks.
