Question : Hi,
My girlfriend who is 31 years old and weighs approx. 120lbs had an abortion at the beginning of December using Misoprostol. She had her first period January 5th and her period is now due on February 1. We rubbed our genitals together and had unprotected sex, but I did not ejaculate in her. Since that time, she has been experiencing discomfort in her uterus, cannot take full breaths without it hurting, has trouble walking up the stairs, and now it is her hurting in her left lower abdomen. If she is pregnant, what are the risks associated with the fact that she had an abortion approx. 2 months ago? Additionally, what are the risk factors related to having another abortion, if we decide to go down that route? If we decide to keep the baby, are there any risks to the baby?

Brief Answer:
I pill. repeated abortions are risky. No risk to continue pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome to HCM.

I have gone through your question, and I think I have understood your concern. I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

As there is history of unprotected sex, she can use i pil or PLAN B within 24 to 72 hours of unprotected sex act. This will help to prevent pregnancy in most of the cases. Day 10 to 20 of the cycle is the most fertile period of cycle.

Secondly, repeated induced abortions do carry a risk. There are chances of infection and bleeding.

Thirdly, if you are interested in parenthood, you can get started with proper counselling . There is no harm in going ahead with pregnancy.

I hope this answer helps you.

Thanks

Can you detail the risks related to this specific scenario of a second abortion within 3 months? Is the cervix weakened drastically? We are aware that the uterus is scarred right now. With a second abortion, will that have a negative effect of the uterus healing from the first abortion?

What are the risks of pregnancy in the future?

Note that this was her first abortion. Of course, in the future, we will be using proper birth control, but for now we are looking at all options.

Brief Answer:
remote chance of cervix trauma, risks are blood loss and infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear XXXXXXX

Thanks for appreciating the answer and thanks for reverting back.

1]If she gets pregnant, it means that uterus and reproductive system has recovered and has restarted its normal functioning.

2] The specific risk in this scenario is due to chances of associated blood loss, that makes her hemoglobin low; which leads to weakness, fatigue and low immunity status.
If the abortion is not covered well with antibiotics, there is chance of infection - PID- pelvic inflammatory disease.

3] With proper use of Misoprostol tablets , weakening of cervix is a rare possibility,as this drug softens the cervix before expelling out the pregnancy.

4] As such, previous properly conducted abortion should not carry any risk to pregnancy in the future.

5] I appreciate your willingness to use proper birth control in the future.

I hope my answer answers your queries.

Wish you all the best.
