Question: Hello need some advice.... my partner has been on the patch and has been very Ill for the 1st 3 weeks... she decided to keep using it after the patch free week and 2 days prior to her changing out her patch for the second week of the second month.... we had unprotected sex on Friday changed her patch on Sunday) today is Monday.... she is feeling very very nauseas and wants to take off the patch... I know sperm live inside for 7 days and I'm afraid if she take it off tomorrow or today she can get pregnant??? Please guide me as to when she can take off the patch and not worry that sperm inside her can attach to an egg if she ovulates when she takes off the patch... thank you

Brief Answer:
She can remove the patch.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
After using the new patch it is normal to have an increase in nausea due to higher dose of hormones. Now in the new cycle she is not likely to ovulate for next 12 days even if the patch is removed. So you need not worry about pregnancy as it has already been three days since you had sex.
She can remove the patch if the nausea is excessive and avoid having unprotected sex in this cycle.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
She can remove patch after day 10.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You have written that you had sex two days prior to changing the patch. If you had an unprotected sex on day 5 of the cycle, then she can remove the patch after day 10. The chances of conception after 5 days are nil.
Hope my answer is helpful.

OK she decided to take it off yesterday.... which was on Monday and we had sex Friday late at night... should she put on a new patch today Tuesday ? to avoid conceiving? should she take plan b? today she hasn't been on the patch at all(Tuesday).....

Brief Answer:
Chances of pregnancy are less than 5%.

Detailed Answer:
Putting another patch or Plan B will again cause nausea and gastritis. Since she has removed the patch and the chances of conception are less than 5%, it is best to let her recover from her earlier symptoms and wait for her next periods.
