Question: I have a large 8-9 cm intramural subserosal and submucosal fibroid, 4 cm of which is protruding through the uterus.

I have been told that there are 2 options. UAE or Open Myomectomy. My requirement is to keep my fertility intact.

Which procedure is therefore most suitable for me?

Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a relatively new technique that has been used in the management of symptomatic fibroids. UAE has been shown to resolve bleeding abnormalities and pain. It has not been routinely recommended for the treatment of infertile women. Although successful pregnancies after the procedure have been reported, the precise effects of UAE on fertility are not known. Temporary and permanent ovarian failure have also been reported post procedure.
If you want to conserve the fertility then open myomectomy is a better option.
