Should Amino Fit Capsule Be Taken When Diagnosed With Low Amniotic Fluid?
Question: Hi,
I have been diagnosed with low amniotic fluid during sonography in my 24th week.In that scan MVP was 2.7cm.
Below is the detailed treatment i went through from week 24 to week 29 :
1. I was immediately put on IV for 3 days - 7 bottles of Hermin. Post this we again did sonography and MVP was 3.5 cm.
2. Then I went to get IV every alternate day fr 2 weeks. Along with this each day i had 20 gm L arginine powder when i did not have IV. Post sonography AFI improved to 9.3 cm.
3. Then I was put on IV twice a week fr another 2 weeks.20 gm L arginine powder continued on non IV days. Post sonography AFI is at 9.8cm
As per sonography baby growth is fine.
Now i have completed 29 weeks and my doc has advised not to have IVs and prescribed below mentioned medicines.
1. Argihope plus ( 15 ml * 2 ) daily
2. Alivher thrice a day
I am concerned about:
1. Post removing IV support are these tablets enough to maintain/improve fluid levels to enaure healthy growth for baby? Till date i have taken 18 Hermin (200ml) bottles. Is there any upper limit on how many IVs to be taken? Do i need to have IV once a week til I get to 34 weeks?
2. Earlier I used to have 20 gm L arginine now with 2 servings of 15 ml Argihope syrup I am just having 6 gm L arginine. Why has L arginine dosage reduced?
3. Should Amino fit capsule also be included to ensure that I am getting enough amino acid?

I have gone through your history and understand your concerns and following are the answers of your questions.
-Yes these tablets are sufficient to maintain the fluid level and baby growth is sufficient.
The reason is that your amniotic fluid is normal according to gestational age and with support of medicine it will maintain.
- No their is no upper limit of hermin,it is an amino acids and can be given as per the patient requirements.
- No their is no need of iv transfusion in a week because their are chances of overloading.
- Normal requirements of arginine is 6-20 mg/ dl so as your amniotic fluid with in normal limit no need of extra supplementation.
- yes you can take capsule but after doctor consultation.
Repeat ultrasound is advisable after 15 days and you should take enough fluid and high protein diet with rest in left lateral position.

1. Is 9.8 cm AFI normal level? I have read that normal AFI level is 11-14. Pls explain. Can you please provide some chart which will show AFI according gestational age?

- yes 9.8 cm AFI is a normal value.
Normal range consider 8-18 cm in different trimester.less than 5 cm considered oligohydramnios and more than 25 cm is considered as a polyhydramnios.
It's value is different in each trimester so 8-18 cm is normal consideration.
In clinical practice if AFI is in between 9-10 cm is considered normal. ( in any trimester).
- sorry that was text mistake it was gm not mg.
So requirements is 6-20 gms/ day.
- you are on right dose treatment and 2 doses argihope ( 15 ml each or 6 gms)is sufficient but if you want to take more discuss with your treating doctor.
In my opinion no need of increase the dose rather it should be supplement with good diet.
- good protein diet include milk,eggs,meat( red),peanut,walnut,soy protein.
As your AFI index reach within normal limits with 2 XXXXXXX of argihope their is no need of further increase the doses of it and rest of the requirements should be fulfil with a good protein diet in 3-4 serving( add paneer,milk,peanut,meat) in your diet.
