Suggest Alternative Medication To Bupropion

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: I am 71 yrs. old. I am on bupropion xl 75 mgs. I was to go up to 150 mgs because I have increased sexual desires, but they are no use to me as my husband won't take 'viagra', or tetesterone) .(I can't blame him). That's all I think about.
I cannot take other depression pills (like prozac) because of something to do with the heart (Q something or other). Dr. recently is checking out something else I can take, but haven't heard back for some time. I get very weepy without them. Thank you for your answer.

Brief Answer:
can try sertraline or escitalopram

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Bupropion is not a very suitable drug for your age. I would prefer something like either sertraline or escitalopram (both are mild and cardio safe drugs). You have only mentioned prozac as being ineffective: so Im giving refference of these drugs. If you have taken these before but without getting any relief: then you may go for venelafaxine or paroxetine. (Venalafaxine is avoided if someine has hypertension).

Dont worry, your weeping will reduce and stop with them and other features of depression and anxiety will also be controlled. Both drugs are good and you may talk to your treating team about them.

Wish you good luck.
